The new Hannigbahn will open earlier than planned!

The new cableway will be in operation in summer 2024.

Worldwide inflation, increased material costs and full order books at construction and supply companies characterise the current environment. As a result, no market prices are being offered to realise the Hannigbahn this summer. The new construction must be spread over two years for the project to be implemented sustainably.

The opening is therefore planned for December 2024, with initial work starting in summer 2023. During the construction period, the Plattjen gondola operates as an alternative service in summer.

Construction is scheduled to start on April 28, 2023.

The project group "New Hannigbahn Saas-Fee" has again dealt with the necessary processing steps in recent months. Saastal Bergbahnen submitted the necessary planning application to the Federal Office of Transport on time and it is now clear that no objections have been received.
The planning approval procedure is continuing so that the construction of the new single-cable gondola lift with 10-person gondolas can begin as planned. Construction is scheduled to start on April 28, 2023.

The installation, to be built by Garaventa, has been commissioned and work will take place in the summer and fall of 2023.
As previously reported, the crowdfunding campaign was a complete success and only a fraction of the patrons could not be convinced by the new operating model. The financing of the facility is thus secured.

Positive turnaround: Saastal Bergbahnen AG declares its willingness to realise the new Hannig cableway with the support of the patrons.

Given the importance of the project for the further development of the Saas-Fee/Saastal region and the commitment of the sponsors and patrons, the Board of Directors of Saastal Bergbahnen AG, under the leadership of the majority shareholder, decided to realise the new Hannig cableway with the amount raised by the crowdfunding campaign and to raise the missing capital.

The project approach with the foundation of an infrastructure company, which would have financed the new Hannig cableway and then rented it out externally, failed due to the problematic conditions of the public-law financing aid.

The majority shareholder and the entire board of directors of Saastal Bergbahnen AG are impressed by the extraordinary commitment to maintaining the Hannig cableway. For this reason, they have agreed to build and operate the new railway because of the new situation.

To achieve this goal, the money raised through the crowdfunding campaign will be used as a public service contribution to finance the new Hannig cableway. This change brings closer the goal of building the new lift in summer 2023 and reopening it in winter 2023.
